V-Day

Happy St. Valentine's Day everyone.

This is the first VD yet where there's been someone with whom I could legitimately spend it. Naturally, it's also the first time where, had I been alone, it would have been okay because I've just got all kinds of things to keep me busy. The irony never fails to bring a smile to my face.

At the least, I don't have to go to school because it was snowing for most of yesterday and now it's sleeting. That means I get a little bit of extra time to work on this paper that I should be putting the finishing touches on right now. It's for my university philosophy class, on Plato's dialogue between Socrates and Meno. The hardest part was not naming it "Finding Meno."

I'm doing what I can to get this Valentine's deal working out. Rachel and I have been going out now for a bit over a month, and it feels like it's going pretty well. VD might be the most cursed, and arguably the most artificial, holiday, but I'm not sure it's all bad. It reminded me that romance is something, gods help me, I enjoy. Not necessarily the Hallmark bears-with-lace-hearts romance, but an old-fashioned kind of thing.

By the way: biking to the nearest decent flower store, in the snow, while it's snowing, might be romantic (I hope) but it also might not be the best idea you'll have all day. I do love bicycling, though, and at least the snow makes for a nice cushioned fall. Plus you can make snow angels while you're down!

I've been fairly okay. There was some family drama involving a child that never did happen (not my child), and a move to a new city that's bigger and proportionally scarier.

The Soupy book will be out this year - finally stopped revising that thing...

Including the original serialized format, I've gone through 11 drafts, and changed the beginning 23 time to try and make it feel right. Hopefully that pays off.

The goal is to have a website as a base of operations - I'm hoping for it to go live in May, but sometimes my best laid plans get sidetracked by life or - let's face it - laziness.

On the plus side, as I continue with my education, I am happily employed at a bookstore, and a comic book shop. Really, I can't ask for more.

Well, maybe a bit more downtime, but I get enough to say quite sane.

And yourself?

I'm glad that family drama didn't happen. I'm also glad you clarified it wasn't yours; that was regrettably my first thought.

Oh for truth? I can't wait! I'm going to have buy two copies for myself (one to read and one to seal away and never touch) and then a bunch of extras I can throw at those of my friends wo enjoy good things to read.

A book store and a comic book store? That sounds near-ideal.

I've moved a few times in the past year. First five minutes away, so I was still in a rural area. Then I went from there into Philadelphia, which was a bit of change. I enjoyed it quite a lot though. I'd still be living there if I had my choice. But from there I went to the suburbs. It's more convenient but not as fun.

I'm going sort of part-time to this high school now. It's flexible enough to allow it and it works for me. To make up what subjects I'm not getting out of it, I'm taking classes at colleges and doing stuff at home. It seems to be working.

I think everything else significant I've written about already.
