Have a Halloween

It's up to you if you want it happy or not.

My Halloween plans currently consist of nothing. I'm too old to go trick-or-treating and I hate parties (the fact that I haven't been invited to any is completely irrelevant).

Instead, I've taken this day to prepare things for NaNoWriMo, which I'm sure I don't need to remind you starts tomorrow. My writing space is looking pretty good, and I've got good hopes for productivity. I fully intend to go all the way this time.

When I tell someone that intend on writing a 50,000 word novel in a month, the reaction is either:

  1. You're a lunatic.
  2. Are you actually going to finish this time?

I'm happy to tell you that the answer to both those questions is yes. And I do realize that only of those was actually a question.

You ought to read my friend B's post on his own aspirations. He puts it much better than I ever could. His entry is looking like it's going to be pretty humbling.

As for me, I am feeling very expectant. I really can't wait to start. I haven't been doing what my friends did in preparation -- no character sketches or modeling. On the one hand it might make for a more free-form story. On the other, if I don't know what I'm doing, I might end up writing myself into a corner. We'll have to see how it goes.

So: Tomorrow, The Adventures of Little Timmy goes live.

Not bad

My blog is worth $66,051.18.

My apologies

I haven't been posting because I really haven't had much to say. There's an ongoing situation on the homefront which I'll talk about when there's something substantial to say.

Although I've been neglecting my duties over here, I've been posting a story over at Two Fisted Toast!.

Also, I launched my NaNoWriMo blog: The Adventures of Little Timmy. There's nothing to look at yet, but come November, that's where my novel will appear. Exciting!

The site is mostly unbroken

As previously mentioned, the site was experiencing some structural difficulties due to a change in the code. A few hours ago I patched things up. It's not perfect, but it's better, and it will do for the time.

Are there any changes that you'd like to see? Anything that bugs you? Let me know!

Update: Thanks for all the feedback, guys.

Update 2: The site is unbroken. I got rid of a bunch of JavaScripts on the basis that I didn't like them very much, not everyone has JavaScript enabled, and they made life difficult for me. It's also possible that it made the site marginally faster.

The site is slightly broken, or, Backlink blues

Blogger introduced integrated Backlinks to today. What are Backlinks?

By turning on Backlinks, we include a "Links to this post" section on your post pages. This section is populated by links to that post that have been made from other blogs across the web.

In short, it means very little to the average reader, and only really has importance to me.

Unfortunately, the new code allowing for Backlinks has played absolute hob with my blog template. I had things working well and now... not so much. I had been working on a fix, but the power went out and erased my code. I'll fix it tomorrow.

I'll let you know when I've got things working the way I want again. And if I don't have it fixed tomorrow, you have permission to give me the proverbial leg in the ass.

Two Fisted Toast

Today is a good day to be alive, my friends.

B. Schatz, the genius who brought you The Soupy Toasterson Show launched his new website today -- Two Fisted Toast.

TFT is a collaborative project between B. and a few of his friends, among whom I am honored to call myself. I myself will be writing a few things for TFT whenever I can.

I very strongly suggest you check it out. B. is one of the best writers around and the site offers up some primo entertainment. I'm excited about this, I really am.

Big link: Two Fisted Toast.

It's (almost) that time again

The National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo for short) website relaunched today. For those of you who don't know what that is, here's an excerpt from What is NaNoWriMo?:

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

I tried my hand at writing a novel last year and got... Well, not very far. It's bad timing for me; November is exams month, and exams take precedence.

I'm going to try again this year. I'm not sure what I'm going to write about; I have two things in mind. One is semi-autobiographical, the other is a piece of fiction that's been kicking around my head for years.

Any thoughts on what you'd like to see?

Oh, and if you want to see what I wrote last year, it's called Rome Didn't Burn in a Day. Mind you, it's unfinished, and a lot of the links/images are probably broken.
