Sword-whip: At first glance, the sword-whip appears to be an ordinary longsword. However, a character that is proficient with the sword-whip may use it in two different ways.
The sword-whip may most simply be used as a longsword. However, a character with Exotic Weapon Proficiency (sword-whip) may use a move action to transform it in and out of its whip form. (The Quick Draw feat applies, reducing transformation from a move action to a free action.) A character without the feat may use the weapon as a longsword but takes the normal exotic weapon penalties. While in whip form, the sword-whip functions as a whip. It deviates from the whip in that it does lethal damage, according to the table, to enemies regardless of their armor bonus, and the feat Weapon Finesse may not be applied.
The following all applies only while the sword-whip is in whip form:
Using a sword-whip provokes an attack of opportunity, just as if you had used a ranged weapon.
You can make trip attacks with a sword-whip. If you are tripped during your own trip attempt, you can drop the sword-whip to avoid being tripped.
When using a sword-whip, you get a +2 bonus on opposed attack rolls made to disarm an opponent (including the roll to keep from being disarmed if the attack fails).
1 Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
